Milo!
I found Milo on http://www.petfinder.com/ and he just stood out... I'm not sure what drew me to him, but something did. He looked so sad. I called the impound and they were only open some ridiculous hours on weekdays. However, the manager said he would meet me there on Saturday morning between 7 and 8am to have a "meet and greet" with Radek! My parents came with me and we took Radek and Milo out into a field and Radek ran more than I had seen him run in months! They chased each other and played... I was smitten. There was no way I could send him back into that impound... absolutely no way.
Radek and Milo in the field.

Well it turns out that Milo has heartworms... which is a much bigger deal than I had ever imagined! I took him for his first treatment that very next Monday. He spent the night at the vet and I picked him up the next day. For the next 60 days (yes, SIXTY) Milo could have NO activity (yes, NO, ZERO, ZILCH)!!!
So here's the scene... I have a brand new dog who isn't used to me, Radek or my house. He isn't neutered or trained and has been cooped up in a kennel at the vet for the past two days. When I bring him home and he sees Radek it is complete Mayhem!!!!! Milo was so excited he was jumping up and down trying to play with Radek, running from room to room... I'm stressing out because the vet strictly told me he could have NO ACTIVITY; so I'm convinced he is going to die. Radek is stressed out because I'm stressed out and Milo absolutely could not care less... and he certainly isn't listening to me because he doesn't even know me! That night, I brought them both in my room to go to sleep and Milo couldn't calm down and leave Radek alone! Radek was huddled in the corner! So I put Milo in his crate and he barked (we are talking about an ear piercing bark!... you can hear it outside of the house!) for two hours straight... I finally decided that my neighbors didn't decide to adopt a dog with me, so i got him out of the crate, put Radek in the crate and sat up with Milo until 4am until he finally laid down... needless to say, something had to be done. The next day my oh-so greatest dad in the world came and got Radek and took him to grandparent camp in hopes that without Radek around Milo would mellow out a bit.
Well, the trick worked! It was me and Milo for the first 30 days and he was great considering he wasn't able to expend any of his energy. He learned sit, stay and leave it in no time! The vet gave me the okay to take him on "short" walks on a short leash after two weeks, so we did more walking than we should, but he held up well :)! We visited my parents as often as possible because I missed Radek and its also easier to keep things calm between the dogs when it isn't just me.
However! As if heartworms isn't bad enough, Milo also had tapeworms!!! He was SO SKINNY when I got him... but now that the tapeworms are gone, I've been able to fatten him up!!! I actually had to settle down a bit with the food because he started getting a little beer belly :).
On the first day...

On a side note, I'm convinced that Milo gave me a tapeworm! Even though the vet, my parents, my aunt and even my aunt's vet have assured me I don't... I'm still weary...
Milo went back to the vet after 30 days for his second treatment. This time he stayed for two nights and the first order of business after dropping Milo off at the vet was to get Radek back! I was quite nervous having Radek home when I picked Milo up after his three days... but it has actually been GREAT! He tries to play with Radek every once and while but Radek just snaps at him and after about the 2nd or 3rd time, Milo gives up and lays down! It's amazing how calm he is considering he still can't have any activity.
It has been two weeks since his second treatment and I was going to take the dogs on a walk!!!.... but as I said... its raining... and so I'm blogging...
.
As you can see, Milo is thrilled about getting his picture taken!
This is actually from the other night and this is the first time they shared a bed! It didn't last for long, but long enough for me to take a picture!!!

Milo doesn't even fit on the bed! Where's Milo's bed?!?!
Hi Julie!
That's fun that you were in Boston too! I have a ton of pictures that I eventually intend to post and blog about from Boston...if I can ever get around to it. I just couldn't stop taking pictures while I was up there. So beautiful!
For the playlist...I got mine from playlist.com. Just create an account and start adding songs. Then click on "add your playlist to Myspace or Facebook", but choose F) for blog or other options. Copy the code and then paste it in a box on the Layout/Page Elements section of the blog. (You'll have to choose HTML/Java Script from the list of Gadgets to add the box.)
Not sure if that all made sense, but let me know if it doesn't work!
