It was never really directly pointed out until my brother profusely made fun of me for being solar powered on our trip to Sweden last Christmas. I would pretty much be completely out of commission once the sun went down. The reason this is so humorous is because the sun would set before 4pm... yes, and as the sun went down, I wound down and was ready for bed by dark!
A month before Sweden, my brother and I went to Slovenia. I was solar powered there as well, however he didn't notice as much since we hiked all day and we were both exhausted by the time we got back to the hostel around 5pm, when it was getting dark.
Side note: Oh my goodness! Speaking of the hostel we stayed at in Slovenia, when we got back to the room the second night, there was a guy in the bed next to mine. Both my brother and I were really tired so we showered and hopped in bed. We both grabbed one of our travel books to read about the area we were going the next day. The random guy next me was laid out on his bed with the TV blaring. All of a sudden out of nowhere, this guy rips one!!! I'm not sure I've heard one louder than this since high school! If you know me, you know how funny this would be to me... I immediately dropped the travel book on my face and did everything in my power to not laugh out loud. My whole body was shaking with laughter under the sheets. After a solid 5 minutes I was able to compose myself enough to lift a side of the book off my face and look at Matt. Him, having a good 15 years of maturity on me, is still acting as if reading his book but I can tell by the smirk on his face that he isn't comprehending a single word and would love to just let the laughter roll. I keep staring at him until he finally glances over at me and then just as in church when we were five years old, a single look sends me into complete hysteria. Still! I let out no noise, i'm just having something like a seizure under the sheets. Not long after, the random guy excuses himself and goes downstairs to eat or something and Matt and I are finally able to release... Oh man! I don't think I've laughed that hard since then!
Anyway, back to the story at hand... now thinking about it, I've always been this way... I've never been a "night owl" and it is really hard for me to sleep when it is light outside. But I guess my solar poweredness just isn't quite as noticeable in Texas!
It was noticeable when my electricity was out for two weeks after the hurricane... the sun would start going down around 7:30ish and be dark in the house by 8pm. And at 8pm is when I would hop in bed... However, tonight as I left work in complete darkness and had to force myself to put on the tights and make the loop around memorial in pitch black, it really hit me... I am completely solar powered and I'm not sure me and this daylight savings thing get along...
