Thanksgiving... a week or so later...

Well this year was and odd sort of year since there were only about a baker's dozen of us at my Grandma's house for Thanksgiving! My dad has seven sisters which created 22 grandchildren! So, as I am sure you are imagining, we have large and in charge family gatherings... to say the least... But I love it! Having a big family is one of the best things in the world if you ask me. There is always someone there to play and when you grow up there is still always someone there to play with! :)

Anyway, back to the story at hand... since a lot of my cousins grew up and went off, got married and had kids; its not as easy to get everyone together as it used to be. And this year I guess was one of those years! However, those of us that did make it to Grandma's this year (might I say some of the finer pickin's of the family! hahaha) had a grand old time!

On a typical Thanksgiving, my Aunt Dobie makes the base of the sweet potato dish and I do the marshmallow topping. Yes! Placing those marshmallows in the perfect melting positions is an art! However, this year she wasn't able to make it and so I was in charge of the entire dish! I broke out the cookbook and mixed the yams with the perfect portions of sugar and butter (pure health) for the base and then got started on the real work! I placed those marshmallows like I was painting the Sistine Chapel. Sweat glistened upon my face as I diligently concentrated on where the next marshmallow would go... People from all around (the back room, the living room, etc.) stopped by to comment on the beauty of my work, the placement, the perfection... it was magical! However... There were some who said that the dish was packed too full, that once put in the oven, the marshmallows would spill over, that it was going to be a mess. I assured them it wouldn't! That it would be great!

So into the oven they went! (on a cookie sheet in case some spillage occurred... for all the naysayers...) And they came out fabulous! Everyone loved them! (especially me, given that I ate at least half the dish... something I will not recommend doing in the future... we'll leave it at that)

And yes, they would have been just as marvelous looking in a picture by themselves. My pretty little cousin is only in there because I thought it was a nice touch!
